I love public speaking, and am often asked to address groups of all shapes and sizes about various topics. Sure, I give papers at academic conferences, but what I love most of all is speaking to community and corporate groups. My talks always have a performance component to them where I sing and play my (against nature) acoustic Flying V guitar and coax lovely alien-attracting sounds from my extremely rare and amazing hang drum. I’m told my talks are pretty funny too 🙂
A sample of topics I have covered recently:
- David Bowie: How he changed the world and saved my life
- LOVE your Performance Skin: Self-empowerment lessons that anyone can employ using techniques from the Performing Arts
- Dr Glam’s Anti-bullying Guide: David Bowie, self improvement, and why your DIFFERENCE is your biggest power tool
- Maximize Your Sparkle: A glam rocker’s guide to unlocking your full potential
Feedback from some of my public speaking includes:
Ian Chapman’s session at the end of the conference – what a great way to finish up! He illustrated his amazing talent as a musician and public speaker. His life story was heartfelt and inspirational.
The choice of Dr Ian Chapman to end the conference was fantastic; really ended everything on a high.
Ian was amazing. The best way to finish the conference.
Dr Ian Chapman was very vibrant and I felt motivated by his talk.
Closing the conference with Ian was fantastic – he was very entertaining.
I was left wanting to chase my dreams after Ian Chapman’s talk. He’s such an inspiring and passionate person.
Ian Chapman – reminded me of being 15 and in love with David Bowie.
